Reed Business Information is to close the print edition of Community Care magazine, putting 11 jobs at risk of redundancy.

According to a statement from the publisher, the online-only move will also create four new positions.

Group editor of the title Bronagh Miskelly is to leave when the final edition of the title is published on 24 November, with the current head of content, Ruth Smith, to be promoted to the role of editor.

Trevor Parker, RBI's publishing director, said the magazine had taken a "difficult decision to close the print magazine and focus all its energy and resources on supporting social care professionals online".

"This trend to online has come at the same time that the upheaval within public sector finances has seen advertisers question the value of print advertising.

"As a result, we have taken the difficult decision to close the print magazine and focus all our energy and resources on supporting social care professionals online.

"The key to the future of Community Care will be the utilisation of new technologies, allowing it to deliver new services to users, and engaging them more directly with the information provided to them, enabling them to shape the news agenda, not just be a recipient of it.
"

According to the most recent ABC figures, Community Care had an average monthly circulation of 32,568 in the first half of this year, of which 25,055 were distributed for free.

Average monthly circulation fell by 21 per cent between June 2010 and June 2011.
