Journalists who have died in conflicts around the world will be remembered in a service at St Bride's church in Fleet Street next month.
This year's media remembrance service, which takes place annually, is on the theme of the "price of freedom". The service will pay tribute to journalists working overseas but will also aim to "show solidarity" to people working in the industry "as it goes through a difficult time and a very low ebb in terms of public opinion", James Irving, administrator at St Bride's told Journalism.co.uk.
"We are standing up for journalists in our daily work. Our support is not dependent on public opinion but on a long-standing relationship between the the church and journalists," Irving said.
This year's service, which will be attended by representatives from all the major newspapers and broadcasters, will be held at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 9 November.
The theme of last year's service was "truth at any cost".
Despite the dispersal of much of the media from Fleet Street, St Bride's remains a favourite for the wedding, baptisms and funerals of journalists. Journalism.co.uk last year produced a video report on what became known as "the journalists church".
