Channel 4 has launched new internship schemes for people looking to start a career in TV production and journalism through its training arm 4talent.

Internships within Channel 4 itself will be announced in May as part of its ongoing Generation Next scheme, but include a 10-week paid placement with the broadcaster starting in August.

The production schemes are particularly aimed at "those who think they might never be able to break into the industry" on the grounds of a disability, age, education or ethnic background.

The Channel 4 Production Trainee Scheme will offer on-the-job learning with a placement at a production company and training from Channel 4. Most significantly for would-be TV producers: the scheme includes a training allowance of £17,000.

Placements on the scheme, which was launched on Monday, last between six and 12 months and include a special selection of internships for disabled candidates. Participating production companies include Dispatches producer Wall to Wall and factual and documentary companies Studio Lambert and Renegade pictures.

More details of this scheme are available on the 4talent website and the deadline for applications is 30 April.
