Emap Consumer Media has appointed Richard Dawkins as its new head of strategic planning.

Mr Dawkins, who was formerly head of new media and technology strategy at the BBC, will take up his post at the end of May. He will work with senior management to deliver Emap's agenda for growth across the magazine publisher's division.

Before joining the BBC as a strategy manager, in which he was later promoted to his most recent position, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the telecoms, media and technology team.

In a letter to Emap staff, Mr Dawkins said: "I am very excited about joining Emap and having the opportunity to help shape the company's strategy to achieve growth, working closely with teams right across the portfolio of Emap's consumer businesses.

"I am confident that we will be able to develop a series of winning propositions that will not only appeal to and indeed grow our loyal consumer base but also offer opportunities to add real value to the services we provide to our customers.

"Whilst achieving cut through is a challenge in a crowded digital space, I am looking forward to developing new ways to make our content work really hard across a variety of platforms."
