The BBC has appointed Matthew Postgate as the corporation's controller of mobile.

In this newly-created role Mr Postgate will head the corporation's public service presence across mobile platforms.

Prior to joining the BBC, in 2003, he worked as an emerging channel strategist for clients including Shell, BT and the Royal Mail Group.

Ashley Highfield, director of BBC Future Media and Technology, commenting on Mr Postgate's appointment, said: "Mobile is an increasingly important area for us and a key part of our multi-platform strategy.

"Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and will drive the BBC's continued success in this field."
