Telegraph.co.uk also saw its monthly browser figure rise to more than 40 million
The Telegraph saw the biggest increase in daily traffic to its website in August, according to figures released today by the Audit Bureau of Circulation, while the number of browsers on the site for the entire month rose over the 40 million mark.
Telegraph.co.uk saw an increase of 9.39 per cent month-on-month in its average daily unique browsers, taking its daily average for August to 2,149,989.
Its monthly average grew by 6.95, taking its overall figure for August to just under 41 million (40,928,617).
But these figures are still some way behind the MailOnline, which continues to top the traffic tables with another increase this month, of 2.68 per cent in monthly browsers, taking it to an average figure of just under 75 million for August.
However it was the Independent which saw the biggest increase in monthly figures, recording a 9.27 per cent rise from 13,516,692 in July to 14,770,314 in August.
Mirror Group Digital was the only audited outlet to record a drop in its online browser figures, reporting a decrease of 2.9 per cent in daily traffic and 3.96 per cent in monthly browsers.
The Guardian reported an increase of 8.85 per cent in its daily browser average, but did not report monthly figures for August following a move to reporting this statistic only every other month.
Results for the Times and the Sun websites remain unreported following the introduction of last year's paywall.
