Startups for News is an international programme that highlights early-stage startups offering innovative tools and solutions that address the current newsroom challenges.
The current round of applications for the programme, organised by the Global Editors Network (GEN) in partnership with Journalism.co.uk, is now open until 15 January 2017.
Startups for News connects early-stage startups with GEN's international network of 12,000 editors-in-chief, and the winning startup will receive mentorship from GEN's board members, wider exposure to the industry, an invitation to next year's Slush startup event, and a booth at the GEN Summit in 2017.
Who can apply?
Startups for News is designed for startups that offer an innovative solution to newsrooms, which have been founded no earlier than 2013 and have received less than €1m (£889,883) in external funding.
How does the process work?
The application period is open until 15 January 2017, after which an international jury will select 16 startups to participate in a series of online pitch battles.
The online pitch battles will take place in February and March 2017, when video presentations of two startups will be published on the GEN website every week. The public will then vote on their favourite each week, and the eight winning startups will take part in the final.
The Startups for News final takes place at the GEN Summit in June 2017 in Vienna – the eight remaining startups will be invited to pitch on the main stage, and the winner will be awarded by an international jury.
"We really love the access to GEN's resources and we can't wait to staff our very own Trint booth at next year's GEN Summit in Vienna," said Jeffrey Kofman, chief executive and co-founder of Trint, winner of Startups for News 2016.
