ABC: Mail Online hits 66m monthly browsers after 30% hike

The Daily Mail's website Mail Online saw a month-on-month increase in traffic of almost 30 per cent in March, reaching almost 66 million unique browsers.

The latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations multi-platform report follow a slight dip in traffic for the site in February to 50,927,975.

In March, however, this rose by 29.59 per cent to reach 65,997,230 monthly unique browsers. The site also recorded an increase in average daily browsers of 16.5 per cent to 3,661,666.

Each audited site experienced a month-on-month increase in monthly unique browsers, with the Guardian.co.uk closely following the record-setting Mail Online site with an increase of 24.54 per cent increase to an all-time high of 49,176,766 while the Telegraph's site recorded a 22.21 per cent increase to 40,139,803.

The Independent claimed it had recorded its highest ever figure for unique browsers, reaching 13,358,598 for the month, representing a 7.1 per cent month-on-month increase and 34 per cent year-on-year rise. The site includes content from the Independent, the Independent on Sunday and its new daily spin-off i.

Metro, which published its first ever traffic figures in January but failed to do so for February, recorded a monthly figure of 6,478,889, an increase on the 5.85 million reported in January.

Results for the Times and the Sun websites remain unreported, as requested by News International following the introduction of a paywall for the Times and Sunday Times sites last year.

Earlier this year ABC announced it had changed its policy to make it no longer mandatory for members to have their online traffic figures published at least once every 12 months.
