The Gazette is looking for a talented reporter to unearth the best breaking news, features, leisure and trending stories on a lively news and sports patch in Essex.

We need a journalist who can help us tell the stories our audiences care about - from crime and court to human interest tales, while also championing our town and the people who live here.

You will be a self-starting, hard-working journalist, full of ideas about how to source and produce the best articles and get the most out of them digitally.

You will be willing to embrace the latest digital techniques, produce live blogs and videos, and immerse yourself in social media to dig out the exclusive stories we are looking for.

Getting out into the community is essential to developing relationships, attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate and engaging copy for our various online and social platforms are essential requirements of the job.

The role is primarily based at our office in Colchester but with some remote and in-the-field work, including out-of-hours.

It would ideally suit a recently qualified trainee, preferably with gold standard NCTJ preliminary qualifications or equivalent, including 100wpm shorthand.

A driving licence is essential, as is access to a car.
