What we are looking for
We are looking for a driven, passionate and resourceful individual to join our European petrochemicals team. The primarily responsibility will be to support and develop market coverage across a broad range of European markets.
Your role will include working closely with the global team, including the global editors and colleagues in related departments such as business development, sales and marketing.
This is an excellent opportunity for an analytical, inquisitive, numerate and literate individual to develop their leadership skills in a rapidly evolving market. You will have a passion for understanding how complex systems work and will relish the prospect of developing your skills in a role that combines data-driven analysis with traditional relationship-based reporting.
You will work closely with other reporters, senior reporters, editors and other teams at Argus. We will provide you with training and support for you to develop an in-depth knowledge of the markets. In-house training courses are regularly provided on technical skills as well as content-related courses, and new joiners are also provided with extensive training resources.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor and assess chemical markets to produce price assessments and intelligence, market commentaries, news, analysis and reports
- Collaborate with colleagues covering upstream and downstream value chains to provide readership with a wholistic view of the market.
- Build up your industry expertise and writing skills to provide readers with first-class market insights and analysis
- Establish strong relationships with key members of the industry and business leaders through meetings and regular communications to gain an in-depth understanding of your market
- Collaborate with colleagues on the desk and in other teams including analytics, sales, marketing and business development to enhance and drive coverage, provide cover where needed and appropriate.
- Attend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry
Skills and experience
- Ability to develop, verify and write industry-relevant news/content in English to deadline
- Excellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process) and a drive to produce high-quality written content
- Ability to use data to generate stories and analysis using Excel is preferred
- Excellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives
- Background in chemicals markets preferred but not essential
- A strong understanding of market supply and demand dynamics in commodities
- Strong co-ordination and time management skills with the ability to work well within a team, and a keen eye for detail
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including coordinating and mentoring team members around the world
