Role overview:

Inside Housing magazine – the respected subscription news magazine and website for housing professionals – is expanding its news coverage and is looking for two reporters to join its award-winning news team.

The reporter roles would suit a journalist with a nose for a story and a track-record of agenda setting scoops.

We are looking for a news driven reporter, also capable of the producing longer-form analysis and investigations stories the magazine is well known for. The roles involve sourcing and writing stories covering a range of patches relevant to our readers – people who work in affordable housing. Inside Housing reports on all aspects of the housing sector, including house building, policy and politics, homelessness, housing quality, zero carbon and the business and financial side of the sector.

Key responsibilities include the sourcing and writing of exclusive news stories and in-depth analysis pieces. We are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace and welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds.


Main objectives:

  • The reporter’s primary responsibility is to deliver regular news and analysis stories on topic areas to be defined by the section editor.
  • Producing high quality, exclusive and timely news and analysis articles that inform housing professionals, stakeholders and policy makers.
  • The reporter is responsible for upholding and protecting the authoritative, highly-respected and objective tone and profile of Inside Housing. They will also be an advocate for the magazine in and out of sector.
  • Providing added value to content that our audience do not get elsewhere, in the form of in-depth articles, investigations and analysis.
  • Maintaining and building contacts in the housing sector
  • To attend industry events, conferences and networking meetings.

Core skills:

  • Strong news sense and the ability to write excellent, accurate news copy on deadline
  • Fast and eager learner, able to pick up new topics quickly
  • Interest in, and aptitude for, financial journalism
  • Experience managing and building contacts and using them to deliver exclusive news stories
  • Researching and writing longer-form stories – including investigative and analysis-based pieces
