The East Anglian Daily Times seeks a dynamic and experienced managing editor to help lead our talented team of Suffolk-based journalists.

This is a pivotal role within our newsroom, offering the chance to shape the future of our award-winning publications.

As managing editor, you will bring a wealth of experience in news desk operations and have a proven track record of managing editorial teams in a fast-paced environment.

You must be highly organised, able to balance multiple priorities and deadlines, and possess a deep commitment to delivering high-quality local journalism that resonates with our readers and serves our community.

While a strong knowledge of Suffolk and its communities is preferred, a willingness to immerse yourself quickly in local issues is essential.

You will play a key role in helping to define and implement the vision for our Suffolk titles, both in print and online, as we continue to adapt and innovate in a changing media landscape.

Typical responsibilities for this role include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the editorial team, ensuring smooth workflow and timely publication of content
  • Managing newsroom staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to help them develop their skills
  • Approving and editing content, ensuring consistency in tone, accuracy, and adherence to our editorial standards
  • Developing content strategies that align with audience needs and community interests
  • Planning coverage for key events, breaking news, and in-depth stories across print and digital platforms
  • Working closely with the editor to shape editorial direction and vision
  • Collaborating with other departments, such as design and digital, to ensure cohesive and engaging content presentation
  • Deputising for the editor in her absence, managing the newsroom and representing the publication as needed

This office-based position, located in Ipswich, will see you working closely with our team to nurture and develop their skills, helping them achieve their full potential.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated and forward-thinking journalist to make a significant impact on the future direction of local journalism in Suffolk.
