Newsquest Scotland’s Fife and Clackmannanshire division is seeking a head of content to lead our talented team of journalists.

We are searching for someone with exceptional digital skills, and brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, to lead and inspire our team of reporters across a diverse range of news patches.

The role will operate across three trusted local news brands: the Dunfermline Press, Alloa Advertiser, and Central Fife Times.

The head of content, reporting directly to the group editor and assisted by a content editor, will ensure our websites meet their digital audience targets and will drive online subscription growth.

The successful candidate will also curate and manage the flow of copy to our print production hub so that our print editions are jam-packed with engaging content.

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • Champion a digital-first mentality in the newsroom
  • Play a key role in shaping the editorial direction and content of the titles
  • Help guide and train the reporters, ensuring they are armed with the skills to achieve and surpass page view targets
  • Monitor stories being filed by reporters, making sure they are highly engaging and presented to the highest standard online
  • Liaise with our print production hub to maintain high-quality print editions
  • Work in tandem with the AI-assisted team, assigning stories to reporters and sub-editing content
  • Coach and guide reporters to help them source off-diary exclusives – for print and online
  • Work alongside the Content Editor to produce a daily web publishing schedule with thought given to content mix and achieving audience spikes, including at weekends, adhering to company best practice
  • Play a part in formulating daily newsletters to drive digital subscriptions
  • Monitor and use audience analytics, mainly Parsely, and other tools as required
  • Liaise with and support other departments, such as advertising, newspaper sales and marketing, to contribute to the company’s success
  • Help represent, where appropriate, the titles in the community
  • Understand and abide by the IPSO Code of Practice
