Real Deals Media is looking for an editor with experience of financial journalism, ideally in private markets, to run its flagship private-equity title Real Deals.

This is an ideal opportunity for a seasoned journalism professional with the skills to coordinate a team to produce rolling news and features and a monthly magazine, while fronting events and some podcast and video content for the title too. Be the face and the voice of the reference publication in the private equity mid-market.

Real Deals covers investment news in the private equity industry, focusing on fundraising efforts, deal announcements, fund exits and other developments in the sector. We also provide more in-depth coverage, including interviews, analysis and commentary, and issue-specific features. The editorial team creates daily news and analysis articles, as well as working on regular print editions. We also contribute to and advise on the company’s various seminars, webinars, conferences and awards ceremonies.

Responsibilities include:

• Oversee daily rolling news output, focusing on drawing proprietary, value-added spot stories and news analysis from the team
• Oversee the monthly magazine, commissioning features and selecting/re-purposing content from the rolling digital output
• Coordinate with the commercial and commercial content team to publish quality sponsored content
• Coordinate with the commercial team to identify and leverage commercial content opportunities, while preserving the integrity of the editorial content
• Coordinate with the events team to identify and leverage commercial opportunities, while preserving the editorial integrity of the event content
• Host events, moderate discussion panels
• Present audio-visual content (podcast, video interviews)
• Mentor and manage a team of talented journalists, both staff and freelancers
• Develop and maintain a network of senior people in the private-equity market

Skills, attributes and experience:

• Minimum of 5 years experience in business journalism, of which,Minimum 2 years experience managing/editing
• Clear writing and editing ability, both short-form and long-form
• Strong relationship-building and networking skills
• Strong mentoring skills
• Confident interviewing ability
• Ability to understand and translate complex topics
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to source off-diary stories and inspire others to do the same
• An ability to think journalistically and commercially at the same time
