Our Essex titles are looking for a digital audience and content editor who can build on our online growth and ensure that our websites are of the highest quality.

In the past 12 months, our titles have been at the forefront covering some of the country’s most memorable stories from our daily live blogs of the trial of sinister double Mersea Island murderer Luke D’Wit to Nigel Farage winning his first seat in Parliament. And now we are looking for someone to take our coverage to the next level.

You will work alongside our head of news, motivating, mentoring and developing the reporting team and helping them get the very best out of their stories online, to help grow our audience.

We are looking for a creative, digitally savvy operator who understands the needs of a modern newsroom and wants to help deliver the best stories to our audience.

The ideal candidates would already be working on a newsdesk or could be an experienced senior reporter looking for the next step up.

You will have an excellent knowledge of media law and will be comfortable dealing with members of the public.

You will:

  • Be able to inspire and enthuse a team
  • Drive our news agenda
  • Thrive working under pressure – including reacting to breaking news
  • Be creative and full of ideas
  • Understand the how and why of search and social
  • Know who is reading our stories, where and why
  • Create the right mix of content, for the right time of day and platform – online and in print
  • Know exactly what makes a story

You will work from our Colchester headquarters, which is an hour away from London.
