Kevin Marsh has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of the BBC's new College of Journalism.

Mr Marsh will step down from his current role as editor of BBC Radio 4's Today programme after a three-year stint, in which he introduced innovations such as a focus on citizenship journalism and the Today guest editor slots.

His new role will involve editing the college's website, which will cover journalism issues.

Mr Marsh, commenting on his appointment said: "I am enormously excited by the opportunity to create a world class college forum where all the tough issues of journalism are debated."

Director of the BBC College of Journalism, Vin Ray added:"His enormous experience will now be put to the use of BBC Journalism as a whole.

"His appointment is a clear symbol of the college's ambition and seriousness of intent."

Mr Marsh started his career with the BBC in 1978 as a news trainee and later joined the World At One Team in June 1980.

Apart from a brief stint at ITN, Mr Marsh is a staunch BBC veteran, having worked across The World This Weekend, PM and Broadcasting House, among other BBC programmes.
