Hines, who makes the move from a reporter position on Times Online, joined the title as a graduate trainee editing the website's education section.
He trained in journalism at City University London.
"I don't think I have any helpful advice to budding journalists other than to be persistent, work hard and say 'yes' whenever an opportunity arrives to do something out of the ordinary," he told Journalism.co.uk.
