ITV News has appointed evening news programme editor Ian Rumsey as its new head of output.

Mr Rumsey will be in charge of co-ordinating output across all ITV news programmes and working on major news stories for ITV1.

The job will involve focusing on interactivity as well as leading editorial staff and producers of news specials and network commissions.

Commenting on his new role, Mr Rumsey said: "I'm delighted with the appointment and to be working alongside what I consider to be the finest, most creative and enthusiastic group of journalists in the business.

"It's a huge honour to work with such a talented and professional group of people, helping them to deliver engaging and distinctive news programmes every day."

Jason Mills, ITV News' main programme editor, will continue to edit the news at 10.30 with Mr Rumsey editing the programme occasionally in addition to his new role.
