He will now be responsible for the print and online editions of the Health Service Journal, Local Government Chronicle and Nursing Times.
Commenting on his new position, he described the three jobs he now holds to Journalism.co.uk: "I am editor of Nursing Times - managing the title's editorial output. As group editor, I work across the public sector portfolio to help set editorial strategy and explore brand development opportunities. As group director, I have responsibility for the commercial performance of the group and manage the senior members of our three sales teams."
McLellan worked at Emap between 1996 and 2007 for various titles including Health Service Journal, New Civil Engineer and Construction Plus Information.
He has rejoined the publisher in his new role from Dr Foster Intelligence where he was formerly head of business development for NHS Choice
"Establish a reputation for being a good judge of journalistic talent and a reliable steward of editorial resources," advised McLellan to budding editorial directors.
"Know how to align editorial to commercial strategy. Get someone to teach you the key elements of business development. Be a market expert."
