Hawkins, who joined Future in 1994 as a production assistant, has worked his way through the ranks of the publisher, editing and launching games magazines before moving to edit Digital Camera in 2005.
In his new role, Hawkins will oversee the redevelopment of the title's website and expand its Photographer of the Year competition.
"We've got some exciting plans to develop and extend the Digital Camera brand outside of the monthly title, and Marcus' guidance and leadership will help us make these of real interest to our growing audience," said Kelley Corten, group publisher of Future's photography portfolio.
