Ms Begum has worked at Asian News for eight years, starting our as trainee reporter in 1999 working up to chief reporter.
Ms Begum gained an NCTJ qualification from Liverpool Community College, on day release, while working at the publication.
Asian News is a free monthly publication that recently moved exclusively online.
Ms Begum said: "This new role is different but I see it as a new challenge. What sets our site apart from others is our strong news section and with daily updates my aim is to get at least one million hits by the end of the year!"
