Media organisation Taproot Edmonton has developed a new business model to support local journalism in Edmonton, Canada.
By only publishing stories sourced from ideas paying members share on its online platform for the community, the outlet hopes to engage community members in news affecting them and their local area.
in this week's podcast we speak to Mack Male, co-founder of Taproot Edmonton, who explains why they have developed the business model and how the project is going so far.
"Local journalism has a really key role in helping people think about challenges or issues in their community, and it gives them the information they need to make day-to-day decisions," said Male.
“If we could figure out the model and refine the technology here, the bigger vision would be to have an impact on local journalism elsewhere as well."
