The company have announced that no job losses will be suffered as a result of the purchase
Tindle Newspapers has announced the purchase of nine community newspapers in Dorset and Somerset from Lyme Media & Events.
The acquisition includes six 'View From' free weekly titles covering Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis, as well as the media group's Weekender titles in Crewkerne, Chard and Ilminster.
According to a release "the View From titles will be published by Devon, Dorset and Somerset Series of Newspapers Ltd, a subsidiary of Tindle Newspapers Limited", with founder of the 'View From' titles Philip Evans named as managing director.
No job losses will be suffered as a result of the purchase, Tindle Newspapers adds, with all full-time staff retained.
"The combined group will have a total of 15 titles in West Dorset, East Devon and South Somerset with a combined weekly distribution of 46,000 copies, making it a significant player in West Country publishing".
Tindle Newspapers chairman Sir Ray Tindle added: "We are delighted to add the View From titles to our expanding group of community newspapers. They fit perfectly with our ethos of hyper-local publications and have a strong readership and loyal advertising base upon which we hope to build."
This follows the launch of a new paid-for newspaper by Tindle in November last year, the Chepstow Review, covering news from the town of Chepstow and nearby towns and villages of Caldicot and St Arvans.
