The PA will supply FA Premier League, UK, European and International news, fixtures, tables, statistics, live match reports and data as well as a wide range of feature content, from its sport headquarters in Howden, East Yorkshire.
The PA is already the official gatherer and disseminator of live match data for the FA Premier League and is also responsible for the distribution of fixtures and processing of copyright licence applications.
Chris Buckley, managing director of PA Sport said "This is a tremendously prestigious appointment for The Press Association and testimony to the talent of our editorial and digital teams. We aim to create a world-class football website which will inform, entertain and inspire the fans."
The PA has a long-standing new media division, which launched the Ananova and Sporting Life websites (now owned by Orange and ukbetting plc respectively), and currently manages and edits the Prince of Wales' official website.
* British newspaper and new media publisher Trinity Mirror is to post live score updates on its icNewcastle and icTeesside web sites during all weekday World Cup matches.
