In a statement today News International said the decision to sell the 15-acre site comes after a review of its London property portfolio.
It also added that “in light of current market conditions” it will not proceed with a previously planned re-model of the site. This had already been delayed in 2008 due to the economic climate.
Most of the company's Wapping-based editorial and commercial staff have already relocated into the leased Thomas More Square site, which is adjacent, with the remainder to be relocated by the end of the year.
The site's printing press is also no longer in use, with print operations now all run outside of Wapping.
The Sun newspaper printed its last edition at Wapping in January 2008 after 22 years, before operations were moved fully to its Broxbourne plant.
