The tabloid’s Hope Not Hate campaign, Penman and Sommerlad Investigate series and Pride of Britain awards have all been shortlisted for the prize, organised by the British Journalism Review. Penman and Sommerlad were winners of the award last year.
Other contenders on the shortlist are the London Evening Standard for the Disposessed campaign and the Sun for Haiti Alive Aid.
According to a release from the Society of Editors, who are running the Press Awards, the Cudlipp Award judging panel also decided to commend the launch of the Independent’s i newspaper, as an example of journalistic innovation, even though it had not been entered.
The Cudlipp Award will be presented at the Press Awards dinner on 5 April. Shortlists for other categories in the Press Awards were announced last week.
