What is it? A "location browser" app for iPhone.
How is it of use to journalists? Localscope could be used by journalists to track down real-time information or organisations within a certain radius of where they are.
The app integrates with your iPhone's location settings to pull in data such as check-ins, likes and comments from social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Foursquare and Flickr.
It also brings up relevant information from multiple local search engines and other apps.
For example, a search for 'police' around North Road in Brighton brings up posts from Twitter mentioning 'police,' a Google Map showing the address for Brighton Police Station and related images from Flickr.
Users can either display results on a map or choose the augmented reality view to spot them in the real world.
You can also navigate and get directions to your results, or store them to your address book in a single tap.
On a practical note, for journalists in an unfamiliar area and in need a venue for a quick interview or a quiet spot to catch up on some work, Localscope could also be used to track down a decent coffee shop or temporary office.
It also works worldwide and supports 21 languages so you can explore your location, wherever you are.
Localscope costs £1.99 and is currently only available on iPhone.
