Associated Press photographer Matt Dunham captured this image of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall as their vehicle was attacked
Credit: By Matt Dunham, Associated PressThe Associated Press photographer who captured the image of Prince Charles and Camilla's vehicle being attacked last year has been named photographer of the year at the Picture Editors Guild awards 2011.
Matt Dunham was also named as royal photographer of the year and received commendations in two other categories: news photographer of the year and photo essay.
The awards, which were launched last year, received thousands of entries from press photographers working in the UK, with winners chosen across nine categories in total.
Other winners included Carl Court, who was named news photographer of the year, Dave Benett, who won celebrity photographer of the year and Matt Lloyd, who received the award for young photographer of the year.
The categories also included an award for the citizen photographer of the year, which was presented to Ben Jacobson for his image showing an elderly woman confronting a group attempting to attack a shop.

- BT Citizens Photographer of the Year: Ben Jacobson
- Fotolia Photo Essay Photographer of the Year: Dan Kitwood
- SAB Miller Photographer of the Year: Matt Dunham
