CNN has appointed Dan Rivers senior international correspondent, based in London.
Rivers was most recently based at the network's Bangkok bureau where he covered the recent political turmoil and red shirt protests in the Thai capital. He also followed the Phnom Penh trial of former Khmer Rouge leaders, tracking down the chief interrogator of the S-21 prison camp.
Prior to joining CNN in 2006, Rivers worked for ITN in the UK both as a crime correspondent and later as an international correspondent. While at ITN, he broke the story that a series of police blunders led to the mistaken shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes at Stockwell Tube Station. His subsequent report was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award in the UK.
Rivers was also embedded with the Royal Navy during the Iraq war, broadcasting live from a ship in the Gulf and covering humanitarian and aid problems in southern Iraq.
Prior to joining ITN, Rivers worked for EuroNews in Lyons after freelancing for London News Network (LNN) on London Tonight.
He takes up his new position on 1 October
